The Allure of the Café.

"Way too much coffee.  But if it weren't for the coffee, I'd have no identifiable personality whatsoever."
-David Letterman

The line"Let's get coffee sometime," has always seemed to have some kind of irresistible classic allure to it. Instantly your mind is set with a scene of an attractive, bookish young pair dressed in a casual wardrobe of basic black, fashionably cut jeans, and loose scarves chatting up in the corner of a quaint dimly lite coffee house while sipping on lattes.

You're inclined to think consuming a cup of overpriced espresso creation at the corner café will automatically entail intelligent flowing conversation about the deeper meaning of life. Flashes of Ivy League students, lanky models, journalists, and indie musicians all with their trendy Macbook companion at their sides dance in your head.

The stereotype pulls you in to a place of relaxation and creativity.  It's a place where your mind can truly be free and your thoughts have time to linger as the glorious aroma of fresh ground coffee sinks deep into the fibers of your vintage designer clothes. Suddenly you fancy a cigarette and have the compulsive urge to switch your major to English or Art and move into a small apartment in New York City.

You're so much wiser now; you see the world in a new light. You long for witty banter with the complete strangers in the room that are as equally good looking and intelligent as you are.  You determinedly come back more than once a week for your soy cappuccino and hour to unwind and watch the outside world through the large glass windows.

Like I, you have fallen for the allure of the café.

Neon Returns!

'"I'm crazy, and I don't pretend to be anything else. "
-Calvin Klein

This oh so 80's retro chic trend has returned to pop up all over this year's spring and summer looks.  Designers have taken very different persona's with the once immensely popular style. A little goes a long way when it comes to neon, so I'm wondering: What is the best way to work the day-glow theme?

Pairing dual candy colored neon shades with a neutral like black seemed to be a hit with Alexander Wang's Spring 2009 collection. Fun, outgoing, fashion forward, but very wearable.

This Spring, Calvin Klein took a more courageous spin with men's monochromatic almost powder-toned suits. Classy, daring, immaculate; signature Calvin.

We don't know if this has-been trend will be sticking around for too long, so it might be a good idea to keep it at your fingertips -- litterally. Neon nail polish is fun an easy way to test run the fad for yourself without taking too much of a risk.

What do you think?

What's so fantastic about the Jonas Brothers?

"Yo! Listen, I'm Joe Jonas! I'm your best friend! Open the fridge. Eat a chicken."
-Joe Jonas

In case you had not heard, the Jonas Brothers were on Larry King Live last night. In fact, it was even a special se
gment held at the Cowboy's stadium. Now, let me ask. Since when do untalented boy bands make the honor of being on a prestigious show?  Young, rich and famous. But talented? Okay, I admit..I have one or two songs on  my iPod. But honestly, if it were not for Disney's fan base of millions of silly screaming preteen girls, they would not be doing so hot. There has to be something else, because the music isn't that good.

These boys have hundreds of sold out concerts, adoring fans, countless types of paraphernalia, a blockbuster movie, a television series, and Louis Vuitton luggage to keep them company during all of the chaos. They've preformed with some of the biggest names in music including Stevie Wonder and have wax figures dedicated to their success.  What's next, a trip to the White House? Oh, wait. They already did that.

Naturally, the only thing that's left to do is a world tour. But we better watch out, because there's no telling what these guys will be up to next. They could create the world's biggest army of oblivious tween girl followers and take over the universe.

So, please inform me. What is so great about the Jonas Brothers?

Hello world, this is me.

"So if I pray, am I just sending words into outer space?"
- Lost; Katy Perry

Fact: Katy Perry's born name is Katy Hudson, and her parents are traveling ministers. She wasn't allowd to listen to secular music growing up, and she came out with a Christian album before becoming what she is now. Didn't see that one coming, eh? Well, in honor of that I'm going to rant about religion today.

Is it just me, or does thinking about religion make you extremely exhausted? For some people, it's easy for them to just believe that God created everything and he's out there somewhere in the great beyond watching over all of us. Sure, we all had to get here somehow. For me I need proof, answers, evidence. So we have the Bible as evidence. What makes it any more powerful than the writings of ancient Greek gods? Science says that space goes on forever. Forever is a long, long time. There has to be something else out there, other than the Earth, other than the creatures on our planet. So is God in control of them too?

I've never been terribly religious but I've grown up being Christian. I don't discriminate against any religion because what proof do we, as Christians, have that we are any more right than Hindus, or people who practice Islam, or any other religion? For instance, the whole idea that God created the Earth and Man and that's it, end of story. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. So, that means the millions of other people who practice other religions because that's all they know, are damned to Hell? It's completely ridiculous, biased, and hypocritical.

Yes, I do realize that I'm young, naive,  and probably don't have all the facts. But these are my opinions, take them or leave them, I'll make you think. Feel free to leave your thoughts via comment. (:

-Claire.
